That was a curious event, I wouldn't read too much into it though.

I think it might be a little of both. I think maybe Jericho accidentally slammed his hand on the mat the first time, and that's really when the ref look to rang the bell. So he thought 'f*ck it' and just tapped, which would explain his shoving Cena in the stomach off of him (being upset with himself I mean). Cena, meanwhile, could've just been a tad bit confused as to Jericho's tapping, as his look wasn't one of anger but a 'what just happened' look. I would know this because I get those quite often lol. As far as the throwing steps and stuff outside of the ring, that could be frustration as to the losing streak he's been on lately (3-6 as World Champ, and 6-18 since) and a general 'why am I being treated like this' mentality.

On the other hand, it could all be a clever ruse by Jericho. Since RAW ended I had the feeling of Jericho and Edge only quitting the team and having the match set up next week as a way to trick Nexus into thinking that they have the unified upper hand while Team WWE has the unity of a stack of cards on a windy day. Then, during the lumberjack tag match next week, the remaining members of Team WWE come out on the ramp, which would distract Nexus and allow the match participants to attack Nexus, then allowing the other 3 members of Team WWE to come down and allow for a 7-on-7 brawl with the Nexus slowly running away and Team WWE being on top. Then we'll all hear about how clever Team WWE is for showing such dismay while being on the same page all along for the next 2 weeks.

I also think that it could be a little of both, but I also think that Jericho is too professional to be p!ssed. Then again, he has had attitude problems before, including punching fans several times. I think that the most likely reason for this is that he accidently tapped out early BECAUSE he was p!ssed, and wasn't paying proper attention, and was having a bad night, so just wanted to get out of there. Another possibility: Cena and Jericho are having backstage problems, similar to Shawn Michaels and Bret 'The Hitman' Hart had in the mid 90s, which led to the Montreal Screwjob. This would explain Cena's push. And if anyone noticed, Cena DID take a long time to aply the STF, so maybe Jericho thought that Cena was having trouble, or had the hold on partially, so tapped out to avoid confusion.

Then again, I think that it was equally likely that this was scripted to enforce that Jericho quit because his heart wasn't in it. This wouldn't be hard to imagine, and could easily be part of the storyline.

If it isn't they will try to cover it up on next week's Raw.

I looked this up just for sh##s and giggles. Not including house shows (in other words, only TV shows), Chris Jericho has a 4-25-1 record against John Cena; they've been a part of 4 Royal Rumbles together ('03, '04, '05, and '10), and have fought in a tag team twice, going 1-1 (a win back in '05 against Christian & Tyson Tomko, and of course the loss against Sheamus & The Miz a few weeks ago). Six World Heavyweight Championship matches were fought involving the two, with Cena winning five of them and Edge winning the Elimination Chamber involving them at No Way Out 2009. The four matches Jericho won you ask?

-July 4, 2002 SmackDown!: First-ever match between the two, Jericho won by pinfall. This was the same show that Edge & Hogan won the Tag Titles from Billy & Chuck. This was also the only singles match where Jericho won.

-Feb. 9, 2009 RAW: A 6-man tag featuring the particpants of the RAW Elimination Chamber, Jericho teamed with Kane and Mike Knox and defeated Cena, Rey Mysterio, and Kofi Kingston. Jericho pinned Kofi.

-Sept. 20, 2009 RAW: Another 6-man tag, Jericho teamed with Randy Orton and  Big Show to defeat Cena, MVP, and Mark Henry. Orton pinned Henry.

-Nov. 2, 2009 RAW: Jericho defeated Cena and Big Show in a triple threat match when Jericho pinned Cena after Show hit the big right hand punch.

THE DRAW: Aug. 9, 2009 RAW: Cena vs Jericho, the ref threw the match out (No Contest) when Orton ran in the ring and danced around some, teasing a punt to Cena's skull.
